A plaited loaf may look complicated, but it is surprisingly simple.

  1. Divide your dough into three equal pieces.
  2. Roll each piece into a long, even strand of equal thickness.
  3. Place the strands side by side and pinch them together at one end.
  4. Cross the right strand over the middle.
  5. Then cross the left strand over the new middle strand.
  6. Continue this pattern until you reach the end.
  7. Pinch the ends together and tuck them underneath.

Place the plaited loaf on a baking tray, cover and leave it to double in size before baking.

With a little practice, you will achieve a beautifully shaped loaf that looks as impressive as it tastes.
